Disneyland Resort Hotels offers summer vacation savings

If you’re planning to visit the Disneyland Resort this summer and enjoy the new, action-packed attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout! inside Disney California Adventure, you might want to consider staying at one of the Disneyland Resort’s three on-property hotels for the ultimate vacation experience, totally enveloped in the magic.

Whether you’re interested in the original Disneyland Hotel, upgraded with the latest modern facilities but infused with nostalgia, or Disney’s Paradise Pier hotel with its view over the iconic Paradise Pier section of the park, or or the arts & crafts style Disney’s Grand California Hotel & Spa you’ll find a a price point to fit your family’s needs. As we’ve reported the Grand Californian is currently in the middle of a hotel-wide renovation which includes new rooms and upgrades to the public areas. The most extensive refurbishment since the hotel’s opening in 2001.

“While each resort hotel offers something unique for guests, what remains consistent is Disney’s exceptional guest service, famed hospitality and of course, magic,” said Elliot Mills, vice president, Hotel Operations, at the Disneyland Resort. “At our three hotels, you are just footsteps from everything, making it easy to play at both theme parks and to explore Downtown Disney. When you extend your stay at the Disneyland Resort, you are sure to create unforgettable memories.”

For a limited time, a special hotel offer is available for guests looking to stay in the middle of the magic. Guests may save up to 20 percent on premium rooms for select nights at Disney’s Grand Californian or the Disneyland Hotel, for travel from now through June 15, 2017, if booked by June 15. Call your authorized Disney travel agent for booking assistance (see below for The Disney Blog’s in house agent details).

Superb Disney Dining and New Experiences

The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort offer delicious dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests will find special character dining experiences at each hotel:

Surf’s Up! Breakfast with Mickey & Friends in Disney’s PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel
Chip ‘n Dale Critter Breakfast in Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel buzzes with character encounters throughout the day, including the new Disney Dinnertime Magic with Chef Mickey.

Also at the Disneyland Hotel, the vintage Hollywood-inspired Steakhouse 55 recently developed a new menu filled with indulgent breakfast items—and creative cocktails.

In the afternoons, guests will experience Classic Afternoon Tea at Steakhouse 55. The mid-day tea service offers sweets, savories and an exquisite selection of specialty teas. At Disney’s Grand Californian’s signature restaurant, Napa Rose, Disney’s expert staff of sommeliers have curated a special menu during the new Napa Rose Food and Wine Pairing Experience. Offered on weekend afternoons, guests will indulge in hand-selected wine tastings in the lounge.

For delicious dinners in a casual setting, guests will enjoy meals at Disney’s PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel and Storytellers Café at Disney’s Grand Californian. Fine dining is available at the award-winning Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian and at Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel.
Ideal Daytime Activities

Guests will enjoy sunny summer days at any of the distinct pools found at the on-property hotels. The Disneyland Hotel pool and water play area feature waterslides reminiscent of the original Mark I Monorail trains from Disneyland Park in the early ‘60s. The boardwalk-inspired, rooftop pool at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel features a 186-foot slide resembling a classic, beachside roller coaster.

At Disney’s Grand Californian, the recently refreshed pool deck includes new hardscape reinforcing the resort’s Craftsman design. A variety of natural stones were chosen to create a warm and welcoming environment at each pool. The 90-foot-long Redwood Creek waterslide curves around a giant Redwood tree stump, inviting guests to come and splash into the Redwood Pool.

The pools at each of the hotels come to life during energetic afternoon pool parties. These parties throughout the summer include games, music, dancing and more.

Guests who enjoy lounging by the pool may consider reserving a private, poolside cabana, available at the Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian for a half-day or full-day rental. Guests will stretch out under a shaded cabana equipped with everything they need to relax.

Special Evening Experiences

On select summer nights, guests also will enjoy movie screenings at all three hotels. During Magical Night at the Movies, guests are encouraged to kick back on beach chairs and towels to watch a Disney movie under the stars.

Guests with concierge-level reservations may take advantage of evening desserts and after- dinner beverages in the three hotels’ concierge lounges. For guests staying at the Disneyland Hotel, the E-Ticket Club is ideal for viewing the nighttime fireworks spectacular with a corresponding soundtrack piped in throughout the lounge.

Extra Magic Hour at the Theme Parks

Guests also enjoy many extras when they stay at the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort. Registered Disneyland Resort hotel guests with admission tickets may take advantage of Extra Magic Hour, which allows them access to select theme park attractions, stores, entertainment and dining locations for one full hour before the parks open to the general public (available on select mornings; theme park admission and valid hotel key card required**). In addition to being steps away from Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks, the hotels are a short walk from the eclectic mix of dining, shopping and entertainment features of the Downtown Disney District.

Westgate Resort Hosted Armed Forces Families For Military Weekend 2017

Our Armed Forces Personnel sacrifice so much for us all to live in the “Land of the Free.” Westgate Resort hosted, along with sponsors such as Disney, Sea World, and Merlin Entertainment, to name a few about 1,000 military families this past weekend to enjoy time together as a family. The Military Weekend 2017 took place at Westgate Vacation Villas & Town Center Resort.

Many of the families were given complimentary tickets to some of the Central Florida Theme Parks, to include Walt Disney World and Sea World Orlando, for Saturday.
The families were also given a two nights stay at the Westgate Resort in Kissimmee.
The families were allowed complimentary access to Westgate’s beautiful Shipwreck Island Water Park located right on the grounds of the Resort.

Westgate Resort hosted a VIP Reception Saturday evening, from 5:30pm-7:00pm, overlooking the tranquil waters of the Resort.

Saturday evening concluded with a Color Guard Ceremony, the singing of The National Anthem, a speech given by COO Michael Waltrip and CEO David Siegel, and a Concert by country music artist Lee Greenwood followed by a Fireworks Spectacular.

The evening was emotionally charged with beautiful presentations, American Flags waving proudly, military families with so many different life stories to tell, and Patriotic Music. When Lee Greenwood sang “God Bless the USA” there was a not a dry eye on the Concert Green of Westgate Vacation Villas & Town Center Resort.

We wish to send our deepest appreciation to Katie Neumann of TJM Communications for allowing us the opportunity to be a part of honoring our military families during Westgate’s Military Weekend 2017.

LEGOLAND Florida opens Ninjago World with innovative interactive attraction

LEGOLAND Florida piped up over the weekend and said, “hey, don’t forget about us. We’re themepark innovators too.” The new LEGO Ninjago adventure will let kids and their families ‘become the ninja’ on a groundbreaking interactive ride based on the popular LEGO building sets and TV show.
Inside the new land are several hands-on, outdoor activities where kids can sharpen their ninja skills before the ultimate showdown on Ninjago the ride. The “4D’ attraction includes 3D computer animation, and environmental effects like heat, fog, and strobe lighting. The ride vehicles themselves feature interactive game-play technology never seen outside a LEGOLAND theme park.

Guests can also find large LEGO models of the LEGO Ninjago heroes Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, Lloyd, Nya and Master Wu including meet and greet opportunities with Kai and Nya. There’s shopping at Wu’s Warehouse which will have themed Ninjago building sets, apparel, costumes, books and more.

On our visit we also loved the opportunities to build models out of LEGO bricks, do some strength and balance testing in the LEGO Ninjago world land itself. In fact, some of the skills you pick up in the land and the queue are important to remember when you’re in the ride. Kinda sneaking like that.

If you haven’t been to LEGOLAND Florida recently you may have missed some of their recent expansions including a new hotel, new 4D movie, and a build-a-boat area.
Visit anytime, but don’t miss the upcoming special event weekends:
  • LEGO Batman movie days (March 4-5 & 11-12)
  • LEGO Star Wars Days (May 6-7 & 13-14)
  • LEGOLAND Knight Lights (select dates in July)
As always all events are full-day experiences included with your park admission. That’s part of what makes LEGOLAND Florida so great.

Joffrey’s Coffee Kiosks Update drinks, add passholder discount

One of the best culinary moves Disney World has made in the last few years was to dump the nasty tasting Nestle instant coffee machines for a fresh brewed batch of local coffee brewers Joffrey’s at almost all of its restaurants. They’ve also expanded the number of Joffrey’s coffee kiosks in the parks meaning that those who don’t like the flavor of that big national brand that recently set up shop, now have another option in the parks.
Even more good news for coffee lovers, Joffrey’s is offering a new annual passholder discount. Starting this year, Joffrey’s will offer Annual Passholders a 20% discount on food and beverages, excluding alcohol. Just show your passholder card when paying.
Beginning January 14th you’ll also be able to enjoy three new signature beverages at the Joffrey’s kiosks.
  • Cupid’s Kiss Latte: a rich espresso shot blended with caramel & coconut syrups, dark chocolate and creamy steamed milk.
  • Valentine’s White Mocha: A blend of rich espresso, white chocolate syrup, raspberry and creamy steamed milk.
  • Amore Cocoa Latte: rich espresso flavored with dark chocolate sauce, light coconut syrup and creamy steamed milk.
Each is available hot or over ice. Make it spirited by adding a shot of Bailey’s Irish Crème, Grey Goose Vodka, Kahlua or Jameson Irish Whisky. A perfect pick-me-up on a cold Central Florida Winter’s day, if we have any more in 2017. They’re only available for a limited time, so don’t miss out.One of the best culinary moves Disney World has made in the last few years was to dump the nasty tasting Nestle instant coffee machines for a fresh brewed batch of local coffee brewers Joffrey’s at almost all of its restaurants. For those staying at select Deluxe Resorts you’ll soon find Joffrey’s K-Cups in your rooms. For the rest of us, we’ll be able to order them online.
Finally, Joffrey’s tea store at Disney Springs has also started to serve coffee. So be sure to head inside on your next visit for a tasting

REVIEW: Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar Revamps Menu, Favorites Change, New Items Added

Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar at Disney Springs has been a hot spot amongst Disney fans to say the least, offering what many considered a very strong drink and food menu. I personally will drop by at least 2-3 times a month for a quick drink or bite, feeling this is really one of the best bar/restaurants on property. This week, a fair amount of the food menu was altered due to guest demand, so we decided to go and try it out.

IMG_9127

Gone are the Good Dates, Snack of Ra, and the original Tanis Tacos, replaced with Temple Tenderloin, Sallah’s Falafel, and the Tanis Tuna Tacos.

IMG_9128

IMG_9131

The temporary menu in the front of the book sin’t all that has changed… the entire book is gone…

IMG_9132

Some drinks have descriptions on the front page.

IMG_9134

Most just have a name and a price.

IMG_9140

The Sallah’s Falafel was really great, especially with the spicy sauce on the side. There is naan bread under all of that, with guests expected to rip all of this up and eat it as a finger food. Luckily it tasted great because trying to eat this in this format was kind of a challenge. It should probably be served pre-cut or something of the sort.

IMG_9141

The Rolling Boulder Sliders were revamped for the most part, losing the spicy yogurt sauce in favor of brisket meatballs with a tomato-bacon jam. I would order the old sliders about 1-2 times a month, so I was pretty worried about this change, but these were good. They are radically different but in a good way. Gone is the spiciness, replaced with a more flavorful sauce that will likely be enjoyed by more guests overall.

IMG_9143

I was pretty excited about the Temple Tenderloin, but the flavor was very bland. The bread was fresh, but the rest of it just lacked any flavor to me. The fries underneath however, were spectacular. The fries are tossed in a bacon and chimichurri sauce, unique to say the least.

IMG_9145

IMG_9145

The Tanis Tuna Tacos also lacked flavor, even after squeezing a generous amount of lime on them. The toppings and the tacos themselves tasted very fresh, but the main ingredient tasted non-existent honestly.

Overall, the changes don’t make me went to stop visiting Jock Lindsey’s but they aren’t overly positive either. I prefer the original sliders, but the new ones are a solid adjustment. Otherwise, there wasn’t much outside of french fries and the falafel that I thought was particularity good. Hopefully they will continue to work on the menu until it evenly rounded out, but until then it’s still worth flying by for drinks and a bite.
