EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT STAR WARS RESISTANCE, A NEW ANIMATED SERIES COMING TO DISNEY CHANNEL

Disney Channel is bringing us back to a galaxy far, far away! We found out this week that production has begun for Star Wars Resistance, an all-new animated series that explores the events prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We will be able to follow the adventures of Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance for a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order, when the series premieres this fall on Disney Channel in the United States (and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world)!

Our fave droid BB-8 will be joined by ace pilots, new characters, and appearances by some of our favorite Star Wars icons—including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, who will be voiced by Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, who play the roles in the live-action films.. The voice cast also includes Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash, and Rachel Butera.

Star Wars Resistance was created by legendary Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), executive-produced by Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Justin Ridge (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), and Brandon Auman, and art-directed by Amy Beth Christenson (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels). With this group of talent, we’ve got a good feeling about this!

Filoni said about the inspiration behind the story:

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

We can’t wait to see this innovative take on Star Wars! Marc Buhaj, senior vice president of programming general manager at Disney XD, added:

“Our colleagues at Lucasfilm have created a compelling narrative for an untold moment in the Star Wars galaxy, and we are excited to partner with them again on this new original series. Star Wars Resistance will bring viewers across generations an engaging story with heart, humor, and both new and familiar characters.”

Are you ready to jump into hyperspace? We sure will be when Star Wars Resistance comes to Disney Channel and Disney XD this fall!

These Porg Cookies Are Almost Too Cute to Eat

Whip up some treats inspired by a galaxy far, far away…

To celebrate the opening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, craft these Porg Cookies with your whole family. They’re so adorable and delicious that they’re sure to go fast. So, we recommend sneaking a few extra for yourself.

Ingredients

COOKIES:

• Porg Template
• Cardstock
• Scissors
• 1/2 Cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1 Cup white sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 Tsp vanilla extract
• 3 Tbsp milk
• 3 Tsp baking powder
• 2 1/2 Cups all-purpose flour
• Circular cookie cutter

ICING:

• 2 Tbsp meringue powder
• 1/4 Cup water (plus more for thinning)
• 4 Cups powdered sugar
• 1 Tsp vanilla extract
• Orange, gray, and white gel food coloring
• Pastry bags and tips
• Offset spatula
• Toothpicks
• Black candies

Helpful Tip
All cutting should be done by an adult.

Directions

1. Print out the porg template on cardstock and cut out your preferred size (it should be similar in size to the cookie cutter).

2. Preheat oven to 375° F.

3. Then, start on the dough. Cream butter and sugar by mixing together.

4. Whisk eggs in a separate small bowl until yolk and whites are combined.
5. Add whisked eggs, vanilla, and milk into butter and sugar mixture, beating together.

6. In a separate bowl, mix together baking powder and flour. Then add it into your wet cookie mix and combine together with a rubber spatula.

7. On a floured surface, roll out cookie dough.

8. Bend the cookie cutter into the shape of the porg cutout. Then use to cut out the cookie dough.

9. Bake on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet for 7-9 minutes. Let cool.

10. Now make the royal icing.

11. In a mixer, whisk together meringue powder and water until foam starts forming. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix for about 2 minutes for the right consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add more water (1 teaspoon at a time).

12. Separate into bowls and add food coloring. Thin the icing with water, until it has reached the desired consistency.

13. Add to piping bags. Then, decorate using the template as a reference. To frost the main shape in white, start with a large tip and place frosting in the middle. Then use an offset spatula to spread to the corners. For the more intricate details in orange and gray, use smaller tips. Make the borders and expand to the middle with toothpicks. Then add dark candies for the eyes.

14. Store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to enjoy the cookies!

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Dominates Christmas Box Office, Nears $400 Million in U.S.

Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is nearing the $400 million mark on Monday at the domestic box office in a dominant performance during the Christmas holiday.

“The Last Jedi” took in an estimated $32 million Monday on Christmas Day at 4,232 North American sites. That’s the second-highest total ever on the day, trailing only 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at $49.3 million and topping “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” from a year ago by at least $6 million.

The Christmas Day performance will leave “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” with a $100 million-plus Friday-Monday take and an 11-day domestic total of about $399 million — already the 28th-highest of all time. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” tops that list with $936.7 million and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is in seventh place with $532.2 million.

“Stars Wars: The Last Jedi” earned $75.1 million in 55 international markets for the Friday-Sunday weekend and had totaled $380.3 million at the international box office as of Dec. 24. Its worldwide haul will top the $800 million mark on Monday.

Sony’s action comedy “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” is leading the rest of the pack with an estimated $52 million at 3,765 North American sites for the Friday-Monday period and a six-day total of around $69 million. “Jumanji” also opened solidly with $49.5 million in 53 international markets for the Friday-Sunday weekend.

Universal’s “Pitch Perfect 3” took in about $26 million at 3,447 theaters for the four-day period. The threequel brought back the Bellas singing group with Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, and Hana Mae Lee reprising their roles. “Pitch Perfect 3” also opened with $9.8 million in 14 international territories during the weekend.

Hugh Jackman’s “The Greatest Showman,” a musical take on circus founder P.T. Barnum, is projected to gross $14 million at 3,006 venues during Friday-Monday. The movie, produced by Chernin Entertainment, opened on Dec. 20 and is on track to make about $18.6 million in its first six days.

Paramount’s “Downsizing” has debuted softly with $7.3 million at 2,558 theaters during its Friday-Monday launch. The studio paid $65 million for the near-future comedy in which Matt Damon decides to become five inches tall in order to live in luxury. Audiences gave the film an unimpressive C CinemaScore.

“Downsizing” finished in seventh place behind Fox’s second weekend of “Ferdinand,” with $9.7 million at 3,630 sites, and Disney-Pixar’s fifth weekend of “Coco” with $7.4 million at 2,111 locations. “Coco,” which led the North American box office for three weekends before “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opened, has totaled $163.5 million in 34 days.

Focus Features’ expanded run of theWorld War II drama “Darkest Hour” came in eighth place with $5.4 million at 806 venues for the Friday-Sunday period. The film, starring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill, has grossed $8.3 million so far in a month of limited release.

The R-rated comedy “Father Figures” grossed a quiet $5 million at 2,902 theaters, landing in ninth place during Friday-Monday for Warner Bros., which is distributing through its output deal with Alcon Entertainment. The $25 million film follows two brothers — played by Owen Wilson and Ed Helms — who set out to find their biological father.

Fox Searchlight’s expanded run of Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” followed in 10th with $4.3 million at 726 locations. The fantasy drama, nominated for a leading seven Golden Globes, has reeled in $8.9 million in four weeks of limited release.

“The Post,” directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, performed impressively in its platform release with $830,000 at nine sites for Friday-Monday. The journalism drama, centered on the 1971 legal battle over the publication of the Pentagon Papers, is playing at three venues in Los Angeles, three in New York City, and three in the Washington, D.C., area. Fox will go wide with the journalism drama on Jan. 12.

MTV MOVIE NEWS — DAISY RIDLEY KNOWS AS MUCH AS WE DO ABOUT THE TITLE OF STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

Daisy Ridley may be one of the leading players in the next film to join the Star Wars franchise, but she's just like us when it comes to some crucial details. Specifically, she has absolutely zero clue as to what Episode VIII is gonna be called, and she has even less of a clue as to when we're going to finally figure it out.

In an interview with the My Dad Wrote A Porno podcast, Ridley mentioned that she heard a potential title for the flick back before they started shooting it, and now that the filming of the movie is complete, she isn't sure that that's the title — or when the Star Wars team will share it with audiences.

"I heard the title a long time ago before we started filming, and so I feel some things have slightly tweaked during production," she told My Dad Wrote A Porno's Jamie Morton, James Cooper, and Alice Levine. "It’s going to be a while before it’s released, I imagine."

Well... dammit. We already know that Episode VIII is set to show us plenty about the new characters we met in The Force Awakens, so hopefully a clue or two about the title will reveal more info soon enough.

"Fanclubdis es Noticias" - Star Wars Celebration: Updates on Episode VIII and young Han Solo movie.

Episode VIII and the young Han Solo headlined the closing event of Star Wars Celebration on Sunday.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and story group chief Kiri Hart joined with Episode VIII writer-director Rian Johnson and Han Solo filmmakers Chris Miller and Phil Lord to present a tease of what fans can epect in the years ahead from the galaxy far, far away.
As the program began, Kennedy had this praise for Johnson. “I don’t say this about many people, but I think Rian moves the camera as well as Steven Spielberg.”
Then Johnson came out and said it was challenging to begin writingVIII while VII was still finishing. While still developing the idea for the movie, he urged the story group to watch the Gregory Peck fighter pilot drama Twelve O’Clock HighThe Bridge on the River Kwai,Gunga DinThree Outlaw Samurai, and Humphrey Bogart’s Sahara.

“This movie is going to start right were the last one left off,” Johnson said. “That final scene in VII, I want to see what happens next.”

EPISODE VIII

Johnson said it was important not to let his awe at directing a Star Wars movie get in the way of making a good one.
“It was an incredible experience on many different levels,” said Johnson, who is near the end of principle photography. “You come into it with nostalgic feelings, but your job is to get beyond that very quickly. The ultimate responsibility is to sit in front of Mark [Hamill], sit in front of Luke Skywalker … and then get to know Mark as an actor and start working on a script and get back to the work of filmmaking.”
He said The Force Awakens launched the new story with a bang, but “second film is where we start zooming in on the characters and getting to the heart of them, challenging them, and pushing them deeper.”

‘Star Wars’: J.J. Abrams Possibly Reveals Major Spoiler About Rey’s Parents

Rey Parents Star Wars

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ director J.J. Abrams just dropped a BIG clue about Rey’s parents. He later clarified his comments, but his words are very telling.

Did J.J. Abrams just knock out key characters as the potential parents of Rey? Kind of. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens director spoke out about the ongoing debate about Rey’s parents and seemingly revealed a huge spoiler. But there’s a catch!

“Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII,” J.J. told the audience during a Q&A session at the Tribeca Film Festival. “So I can’t possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too.”

With those words, J.J. essentially eliminated Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo as Rey’s potential parents. There are a number of theories going around, and those three characters were at the top of the list. However, J.J. later tried to clear up what he said.

“What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII,” J.J. clarified to Entertainment Weekly. “Not that they may not already be in her world.”

Well, well, well. Could J.J. just be trying to make up for leaking a major spoiler?! Possibly. The director admitted that it wasn’t his place to reveal spoilers about Episode VIII. “Obviously it’s not for me to talk about in this moment because this is Rian [Johnson]’s story to continue now,” J.J. said.

J.J.’s initial comments give more proof that Rey’s mom is actually Rogue One’s Jyn Erso. That’s the currently theory taking over the internet. There’s a lot of evidence that supports Jyn and Rey are mother and daughter.

HollywoodLifers, who do you think Rey’s parents are? Let us know your theories below!

New LEGO Star Wars Series Headed to Disney XD This Summer

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaking every conceivable box office record, Star Wars properties having a pronounced presence in the Parks, and the first anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, opening this Christmas, it is a great time to be a Star Wars fan. And it just got better: Today it was announced that LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, an all-new animated series, will be coming to Disney XD this summer.

This new series will center around the Freemakers, a “family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy.” When the youngest Freemaker discovers an ancient lightsaber, the family is “thrown into an epic struggle against the empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy.” And yes, “familiar characters” will make appearances alongside all-new heroes and villains.

“We are very excited to launch, for the first time, a TV series with Disney XD,” Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group, said in an official statement. “The creative team behind The Freemaker Adventures is extremely talented, and the series is a great testament to our longstanding and successful partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney. The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”

Carrie Beck, vice president of animation development at Lucasfilm added: “We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD, and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar).”

If you’ve ever played a LEGO Star Wars game (LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out in June!) or watched one of the LEGO Star Wars limited series or specials, then you know the kind of irreverent fun that will undoubtedly be a part of this brand new series. Disney XD is already home to the excellent Star Wars Rebels animated series, which concludes its second season in late spring, and we couldn’t be more excited for this brand new animated outing. The Force is definitely strong with this one.
