¡Bienvenido make up primaveral!

Jessie, The Love Story; Episode 25: 3 Reasons You Should NOT Wear Makeup to the Gym by Emma Ross

Exercise is an activity meant to keep your body fit and healthy, but so many girls ignore the importance of keeping one thing healthy during workouts: their skin. Sure, we all want to look as though we're unfazed by that CrossFit box session, so a little foundation can't hurt. Or maybe we just don't have time to remove makeup from the day before jetting off to a dance class. There are many ways you can get glowing skin without sacrificing the health of your body's biggest organ. C'mon, the natural flush you get when busting out your best squats is better than any blush on the market! We spoke to Miami-based dermatologist Janelle Vega, M.D. of Mayoral Dermatology and Indie Lee, skincare expert and founder of her namesake skin care line, Indie Lee to give you the scoop on why you need to scrub it all off before a workout. Get ready to take notes. It Clogs Your Pores "Sweat is released through visible pores in the skin," says Dr. Vega. "When makeup covers those pores, that barrier doesn't allow the sweat to make it to the surface of the skin, which can lead to clogged pores. The trapped debris and bacteria are a perfect breeding ground for acne bumps and zits." But don't get it confused—sweat is not the enemy! "Sweating is like a free steam facial for your skin," says Lee. "The worst thing you can do is block your pores during this natural detox. Remove makeup before breaking a sweat so skin stays as clean and as healthy as possible." You Don't Want Acne Your daily SPF can actually be troublesome in this context. No good deed goes unpunished, huh? "Sun protection is very important, there's no doubt," says Lee. "But sunscreen absorbs into open pores more easily when you sweat. Three-quarters of all sunscreens contain harmful ingredients that can travel directly into your bloodstream, creating long-term health risks. Chemical ingredients in sunscreen have been linked to skin reactions including acne, burning, dryness, itching, redness, and swelling." But this is no excuse to go without SPF if you're working out during the day. "Instead, opt for healthier sunscreens when active while the sun is out," says Lee. "As I always say, read your ingredients. I also recommend wearing clothes that have SPF in them for added protection without the negative side effects." You're Naturally Beautiful A clear complexion comes from loving and taking care of your skin with the proper daily beauty regimen. Have you noticed more and more celebrities aren't afraid to share their #iwokeuplikethis images on Twitter and Instagram? Get inspired! "If you're prone to redness or rosacea, apply a toner or facial mist with anti-inflammatory properties prior to exercising," says Lee. This will help alleviate redness during and after your workout. Try Indie Lee's CoQ-10 Toner, which offers a soothing blend of chamomile and CoQ-10 to keep skin protect and hydrate your skin." Caring for your skin doesn't end once you leave the gym. "Your sweat is acidic by nature and can knock your pH balance out of whack if you wait too long to shower after working out," says Lee. "Clean skin with a gentle formula that not only removes dirt and impurities, but also balances your complexion." Ready to bare your skin for today's workout? Don't make us beg! Read More:

Summer is great: It means vacation, beaches, and awesome swimwear. But it can be a tricky time for beauty, when our hair is chapped from the ocean but our skin is shinier than the sequined gowns we wore at prom. And then, of course, there's the whole matter of SPF, which can cause makeup to look chalky and gross. (And our pores to clog and get zits.) In this comprehensive shopping guide, we've outlined this season's plentiful beauty concerns and our most effective (but affordable!) solutions. Click through to find out which drugstore diamonds made our list, and then let us know what you're using in the comments below. (Seriously: We love to hear from you.)

Did You Know There's an 11-Step Japanese Skin Care Routine?! Here's Why You Should Try It

11 Steps of the Japanese Skin Care Routine
Walking in the doors of Mitsokushi in Ginza, Tokyo, the first thing you notice are the makeup counters: They cover the floor in glimmering black lacquer and glass, reflecting their glamour across shiny tiles as well-dressed Japanese teens figure out which of the latest and greatest creams, cleansers, and moisturizers they're going to try. Meanwhile, a few subway rides away in trendy Harajuku, the options for finding great skincare are endless: Both well-known and boutique brands march down Japan's version of the Champs-Élysées. And not far from Harajuku, down a quiet residential street in Roppongi, women of all ages are scrubbing away the day's dirt and soaking their skin in the brown mineral waters that bubble up from underground hot springs. In Japan, a naturally glowing, smooth complexion has been the longstanding foundation for beauty. Most Japanese girls follow the country's standard seven-step regimen, but sometimes the process can go all the way up to 11 steps! "We consider our facial features relatively flat compared to Western people," Tokyo-based Jill Stuart beauty brand manager Mayumi Sato says. "Meaning, the skin's appearance plays an important role in perfecting our look, because imperfections stand out even more on our skin. Wearing beautiful makeup alone can't hide the imperfections." Beyond the superficial, there may be a cultural reason for the meticulous routines: "Japanese people love cleanliness," she adds. "Some people soak in the bathtub for more than an hour." We asked top skin care experts to take us through exactly what goes into an 11-step routine. (Though more than one of our experts did admit they stick to five or seven steps on a daily basis.) Still, if you're as curious as we were, click through to find out more!

Exclusive! Bella Thorne's Makeup Artist Shares Her Secrets for a Natural, Pretty Prom Look

The red carpet at last night's MTV Movie Awards was full of eccentric beauty looks, from crimped ponytails to super bright lips. But Bella Thorne opted for a more natural aesthetic with easy, flowing hair and barely-there makeup. A lot of you awesome readers have been asking for tips on how to pull off a subtle look like hers for prom, so we got an exclusive step-by-step with Bella's makeup artist, the lovely Tonya Brewer. (The best part? Tonya used a ton of great drugstore products. That means if you don't have a whole lot of makeup to begin with, buying a few things for prom won't break the bank!) "Bella and I love experimenting," Brewer told us, "and the Movie Awards is normally a great opportunity to try new things. But last year we did a golden smoky eye, so we wanted to mix it up. I decided to enhance Bella's natural beauty, which is a look I would recommend for anyone who wants to just look beautiful on prom night. It really takes minimal effort to achieve." Of course, we all know beauty starts with the skin. "The first step is to make the complexion flawless," Brewer says. "I use Neutrogena's Skin Clearing Liquid Makeup because it's light and breathable. It's oil-free, so it won't clog your pores, and it has salicylic acid to treat breakouts." Oil-based foundations are actually easier to blend into the skin, so make sure you apply this product with a damp BeautyBlender sponge to ensure a seamless finish. Consider only dabbing it onto your T-zone, the corners of the nose, and the chin to cancel out redness, and let the rest of your complexion breathe! "Once the foundation was finished, I used my fingers to apply a brightening concealer under the eye area. Neutrogena's Eye Perfector is really a life saver, plus it's great for on-the-go touch ups. It also has SPF, which makes it ideal for everyday use to protect the fragile under eyes!" A lot of girls skip blush altogether, but Brewer insists it's an essential for healthy radiance. "A light dusting of a shimmery blush will enhance the cheekbones," she says. "I used Sheer Highlighting Blush in Pure, which is a soft pink. It livens up the complexion and adds a bit of gentle color." To finish the skin, she dusted every oily girl's best friend onto the T-zone: Neutrogena's Shine Control Powder. For the eyes, a taupe shadow was dusted all over the lids to add dimension. "Then on the inner corners, I applied a gold shadow. It really widens the eyes, which is great for pictures," Brewer says. Then she finished with a few quick coats of "B's favorite mascara," Neutrogena Healthy Lengths. "It builds volume quickly to achieve a fuller-looking lash!" For the lips, Brewer advises skipping full-on lipstick in favor of something sheer, lightweight, and shiny. "A lip crayon is great because they hydrate your lips while you wear them, which leaves your pout feeling soft and smooth." Bella's wearing Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Warm Caramel. Check out our exclusive behind-the-scenes photo of Bella's barely-there makeup below, and let us know if you have any additional questions on how to get the look in the comments section!

Beauty Battle: Kylie Jenner and Emmy Rossum Face off in Flower Crowns

When we were brainstorming the best hairstyles to wear at Coachella, the flower crown was obviously at the top of the list. And, sure, it's a look that can easily be perceived as predictable, but that doesn't mean it's not pretty! A couple of our favorite celebrities just proved that this is one style with major staying power, albeit in two dramatically different ways. Kylie Jenner and sister Kendall used Coachella as an opportunity to experiment sartorially, opting for witchy-bohemian fashions that certainly turned heads. To accent her new look, Kylie took her crown to a slightly gothic place with black-dyed flowers, a choker necklace, and rimmed eyes. The accessory was placed high enough on Kylie's head to show her dip-dyed tips and a bit of hair in the front, which added height to her face shape. (A great tip for any round-faced girl—the higher your bun, crown, or braid, the more flattering!) Meanwhile, Emmy Rossum kept it classic and pretty with gorgeous purple blooms and raspberry lipstick at a Christian Louboutin luncheon in Los Angeles. Adding to the casual, hippie vibe of the crown was an easy, beachy texture. (Try Sachajuan Ocean Mist on damp hair, then let it air dry for a similar effect.) Finishing the look was a ladylike dress and a pair of ladylike heels, which proves the hair accessory is an option for more than just music festivals.
