DisneyVersary 2017 — Disney releases DisneyNow, a new app that combines live TV, on-demand, games and music

Disney’s streaming service may still be years away, but the company this week has launched a new app for streaming Disney’s series, Disney Channel movies, live TV and music all under one roof, with the release of DisneyNow. The app is designed to consolidate Disney’s existing “Watch” streaming apps into one, including Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior and Radio Disney.

That suite of TV apps, aimed at kids 2 to 14 years old, have been downloaded over 40 million times since 2012, the company says. To some extent, it made sense to keep them as separate properties – after all, what a 2-year old wants to watch will be very different from a young teenager.

But times are changing. While it made sense for each property to have its own space on linear TV, it’s more cumbersome to have multiple apps installed on our devices for access to content from a single provider.

To address this problem, Disney has added personalization features within the new DisneyNow app so kids (or parents) can customize the app to their programming interests. In addition, there’s a “Disney Junior Only” mode that parents can enable if they want to keep the app focused on preschool-appropriate programming.

What’s also interesting about the new app is that it gives you an idea of how Disney’s forthcoming streaming service may work.

In DisneyNow, for example, each user can set up a profile for themselves, and select from over 180 Disney Emoji avatar character poses to associate with their account. Kids can then customize their setup by choosing their favorite characters and shows, and then receive recommendations about what to watch next.

The app will also remember where users left off, so they can resume watching the next time they log in.

And like Disney’s upcoming streaming service has planned, DisneyNow app offers a combination of content – not just shows and movies. There are also games, music, and special performances available, too.

The app will include the ability to watch live, linear TV channels, as well as on-demand, in-season TV shows from its networks, like: “Andi Mack,” “Raven’s Home,” “Bizaardvark,” “Stuck in the Middle,” “Tangled: The Series”; Disney Junior’s “Vampirina,” “Elena of Avalor,” “Mickey and the Roadster Racers,” “The Lion Guard,” “Puppy Dog Pals” and “PJ Masks”; and Disney XD’s “DuckTales,” “Star Wars Rebels,” “Walk the Prank,” “MECH-X4” and “Milo Murphy’s Law.”

A selection of Disney Channel TV movies, curated from over 100 titles, will also be available, along with over 60 games featuring Disney characters, like the “DuckTales” adventure game “Duckburg Quest,” Princess Elena of Avalor in “Flight of the Jaquins” and the Villain Kids in the “Descendants 2 Wicked Style” activity.

Disney says it will release new games to the platform on a monthly basis.

Radio Disney performances and in-studio appearances will be added to this app, as well, including those from Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello, and others. The app is ad-supported via sponsorships, traditional or interactive TV commercials and sweepstakes, as there’s no subscription fee to use it.

However, DisneyNow is not an over-the-top streaming service, like the one Disney has planned for its 2019 release, nor will it include any theatrical movies, like those from big brands such as Pixar, Marvel, or Star Wars. Those are being saved for Disney’s big Netflix competitor. (It does have sections for Marvel and Star Wars though, for their TV cartoon series.)

While some content in DisneyNow available for free, to watch the full lineup, users will need to authenticate using their pay TV credentials from a supported cable, satellite or digital programming distributor.

The good news for cord cutters is that DisneyNow does work with your YouTube TV, PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now, or Hulu credentials.

Of course, you could just watch Disney via those streaming apps’, but it’s better to install the DisneyNow app for the kids, so they don’t have to stumble through adult programming to find their favorite shows.

DisneyNow is a free download on iOS, Apple TV, Android, Fire tablets, and Roku. A version for Fire TV, Android TV and the web will arrive next year.

Last year, we found out that a television series based on Big Hero 6 the movie would be coming to Disney XD, along with an amazing voice cast. Today, it was announced that the series has already been ordered for an early second season! That means tons of adventures are in store for our Big Hero 6 faves, and we couldn’t be happier about it. The story of the series picks up immediately following the events of the feature film, including Hiro, Baymax, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Go Go, and Fred, along with many other returning characters. Hiro will face daunting academic challenges in his day-to-day life, and high-tech adventures with the Big Hero 6 team as they protect San Fransoyko. As an extra gift to us all, the voice cast of the upcoming series made a video to show us all how the iconic Baymax fist bump is done. Get your “Bah-a-la-la-la” ready and watch this gem:

The amazing Stan Lee introduces the video by saying “The cast of Big Hero 6 will now show you how to do a fist bump!” If Stan Lee said it, you know it’s going to be good. We then get to see the cast try to recreate the iconic moment between Hiro and Baymax. Brooks Wheelan, who voices Fred, begins with an impressive reenactment. Next, Maya Rudolph, who voices Aunt Cass says, “I can’t remember how to do it.” Lucky for her, Scott Adsit (Baymax), Ryan Potter (Hiro), Khary Payton (Wasabi), Genesis Rodriguez (Honey Lemon), and Jamie Chung (Go Go) all pitch in to provide the fist bump and “Bah-a-la-la-la!” Then, Stan Lee fist bumps Scott Adsit, who flies off screen in an epic conclusion. Amazing. If you need a refresher on the original Baymax and Hiro moment, here it is:

So good! Baymax saying”Bah-a-la-la-la” gives us life! And we’re absolutely obsessed with the voice cast of the upcoming Big Hero 6 series. We can’t wait to see what they do next!

New LEGO Star Wars Series Headed to Disney XD This Summer

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaking every conceivable box office record, Star Wars properties having a pronounced presence in the Parks, and the first anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, opening this Christmas, it is a great time to be a Star Wars fan. And it just got better: Today it was announced that LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, an all-new animated series, will be coming to Disney XD this summer.

This new series will center around the Freemakers, a “family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy.” When the youngest Freemaker discovers an ancient lightsaber, the family is “thrown into an epic struggle against the empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy.” And yes, “familiar characters” will make appearances alongside all-new heroes and villains.

“We are very excited to launch, for the first time, a TV series with Disney XD,” Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group, said in an official statement. “The creative team behind The Freemaker Adventures is extremely talented, and the series is a great testament to our longstanding and successful partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney. The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”

Carrie Beck, vice president of animation development at Lucasfilm added: “We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD, and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar).”

If you’ve ever played a LEGO Star Wars game (LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out in June!) or watched one of the LEGO Star Wars limited series or specials, then you know the kind of irreverent fun that will undoubtedly be a part of this brand new series. Disney XD is already home to the excellent Star Wars Rebels animated series, which concludes its second season in late spring, and we couldn’t be more excited for this brand new animated outing. The Force is definitely strong with this one.

"Ultima Hora Disney": Disney XD's 'Gravity Falls' Ends After Two Seasons

Disney ended the animated series Gravity Falls after 2 seasons on Friday (November 20), according to show’s creator Alex Hirsh.

The mystery cartoon tells the story of 12-year-old siblings Dipper and Mabel Pines navigating their way through an interesting summer at their uncle’s tourist attraction, The Mystery Shack.

Alex took to his Tumblr to explain the tough decision.

“There’s no easy way to say it so I’m just going to say it: Gravity Falls is coming to an end,” he said.

However, according to Alex the show’s ending is exactly how he wanted it go all along.

“The first thing to know is that the show isn’t being cancelled- it’s being finished. This is 100% my choice, and its something I decided on a very long time ago. I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end,” he continued.

The show will have two final episodes: “Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality” and “Weirdmageddon III”. Both shows will be an hour long with the first of the two airing Monday

Fanclubdis, Be Inspired - The Dark Secrets You Never Knew About Disney Channel’s Phineas & Ferb

Your favorite animated Disney movies, like Frozen, Tangled and The Princess and the Frog, are plagued with fan theories.

Some disturbing, some thought-inducing and some sort WTF-status, you’re wondering how you missed ‘em yourself.

And, apparently, the same thing could be said for some of your favorite Disney Channel TV series — like Phineas and Ferb!

1. It’s all in Candace’s mind. Like the Rugrats theory (which suggests all the babies are dead in real life, and living only in Angelica’s mind) no one likes to talk about, there’s one theory about the Disney Channel cartoon that claims that Phineas was real, but was killed and lives only as a figment of his sister’s imagination.

“Candace couldn’t deal with Phineas’ death, so she built an imaginary world where he was still alive and playing with her other brother Ferb. Ferb has a disability and can’t talk or do much, but she imagines him and Phineas going on great adventures together,” says one theorist.

2. Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz is actually Phineas’ father! Believe it or not, there’s an entire Reddit thread dedicated to this suggestion!

Supposed evidence: 1. They have a similar head shape. 2. Being the son of a scientist would explain why Phineas is so intelligent. 3. P&F have access to a lot of funds, potentially because of a trust fund set up by his long-lost genius father? There’s a lot to digest, so we’ll let you think this one over.

3. Perry’s sole purpose is to keep Phineas and Dr. Doofenshmirtz from meeting.

Going off of Theory Numero Dos — that Heinz and Phineas are father and son — everyone’s favorite platypus was supposedly put on Earth to prevent his master from interacting with his enemy for fear that he may turn out evil as well. Interesting.

Together, the Doctor and Rose (played by Billie Piper) travel back in time to the Highlands of Scotland to find Queen Victoria confronted by a terrifying Werewolf, and into the future where an evil team of humanoid-feline nuns hide a sinister secret at the heart of their hospital. A spaceship in the future holds a doorway to 18th Century France, where lethal Clockwork Droids stalk Versailles, and back on 21st-century Earth the human race is threatened by an army of emotionless Cybermen.

The second installment was produced by BBC in association with CBC.
